2019 Precision Component Manufacturing Equipment Upgrades

“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.” – Vincent Van Gogh

Strategic planning for precision component manufacturing is driven by several key components: reliable data to forecast capacity, an understanding of changing customer demand, capital investment allocation, and the ability to prioritize the acquisition of assets.

Without these elements, successful growth is difficult.

For this reason, we’ve made an intentional effort to free up some highly-skilled engineering talent at Swiss-Tech, providing additional focus to our efforts to increase capacity and eliminate waste wherever possible.

Swiss Machining Equipment Updates

In support of this recently implemented initiative, we have also dedicated resources and budget to upgrade our CNC technology in a number of ways.

Additional Automatic CNC Lathes

To continue creating additional capacity, we are adding a new Miyano BNA-42DHY3 CNC Lathe to our floor this year.

This machine can handle precision components and sophisticated tooling to create complex shapes on up to 42mm in diameter bar stock.

Although we currently have two of these high-performing machines in operation at our facility, this model is the latest and greatest with a versatile range of functions.

Model Specifications:

  • 24/7 stability and accuracy
  • Back machining with 2 spindles
  • 8-Station turret for complex tooling
  • Control technology to improve productivity & reduce cutting time

We’ll be bringing in another three NEXTURN CNC Swiss-Type Automatic Lathes to provide additional capacity on our production floor as well.

These rigid and reliable machines are tailor-made for ultra-precision component manufacturing and present a variety of features.

Model Specifications:

  • Fanuc built-in AC spindle motors
  • Arm type positioning operation panels
  • Powerful live tools for complex milling

As valuable additions to our already state-of-the-art facility, this ergonomically designed equipment will be put to good use producing world-class parts for our customers.

Another Optical Comparator

The next highlight on our list is the addition of a Starrett HB-400 Benchtop Optical Comparator for quality inspection and complex part measurement.

An industry standard for many years, Starrett’s high-performing technologies provide trusted, effective, contact-free solutions to strengthen our Quality Assurance Systems (QAS).

Model Specifications:

  • 16” diameter screen
  • 300mm x 150mm X – Y measurement range
  • 50mm focus range
  • 1-minute angular measurement resolution
  • Diverse range of optional features

New Industrial Heating Units

In an effort to minimize the effect of thermal expansion/contraction, we are in the process of adding seven new industrial heating units to our 45,000 sq./ft. facility.

This will help us to control our temperature more consistently throughout the facility, improve the comfort of our employees working indoors, and enhance our machining productivity.

“When precision is the goal, it’s vital for us to continue finding ways to ensure the quality of the components we manufacture. Controlling our temperatures is just one way for us to do this, while allowing us to better serve our clients and our employees.” – Frank Meiland, President at Swiss-Tech

More Precision Component Manufacturing Updates in the Works

We have plenty of additions and upgrades on the way in 2019. Things as simple as a new company van to reduce queue time or purchasing more automatic bar feeders to improve our man to machine ratio are within the pipeline.

Any one of these upgrades may seem somewhat insignificant on their own, but together, each will help us do big things at Swiss-Tech. As we embrace these enhancements to our capacity, production efficiency, and quality assurance, we have a lot to look forward to.

If you’re interested in viewing a few of these updates in-person, we’re always open to scheduling facility tours – whether you plan on buying from us or not.
